Paul W. Ragan, M.D., is board-certified in addiction and adult psychiatry, as well as psychosomatic medicine. He was the founding medical director of the Faculty and Physician Wellness Program at Vanderbilt University where he continues to work as a senior consulting psychiatrist. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. His experience in addiction medicine ranges from clinical training and research at NIH, to medically complicated detoxification protocols in a variety of settings, to medical director of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment facility. He has extensive experience as an expert witness, and in evaluating and treating impaired professionals. His interest in occupational psychiatry arose during his training and serving in the US Navy Medical Corps, including with a Marine Medical Battalion in Operations Desert Shield/Storm.
